InsFocus at DIA Amsterdam 2019

For the second year in a row InsFocus attended the DIA Amsterdam event to network with some of the most innovative companies in insurtech and have discussions with prominent industry thought leaders. This year’s event in the Netherlands took place between the 25th and 27th of June. Over 2,000 attendees from around the world were present to learn about the most recent trends in insurtech and share ideas about innovation in the future. Approximately 60% of the attendees were C-level and C1 executives in their respective companies.

The event seemed to have grown since last year and therefore this year everything seemed bigger and brighter. In 2018 the event was a two-day experience. This year the event grew to three days with Galich 75 companies giving presentations along with workshops and meet ups. Read more about our experience from last year here.

This year’s themes revolved around what the future of insurance looks like, turning innovation with insurtechs into top line and bottom line impact, and “East meets West.” Among the companies present were Lemonade, Digital Insurance Group, Data Robot, Slice, and LeakBot. Some of this year’s speakers were Marco Keim the Chief Executive Officer of Aegon, Max Reckers the Performance Technology Expert of AFC Ajax, and Daisuke Iwase the Group Chief Digital Officer of AIA Group Limited. At the end of each day after meeting many new people and absorbing a lot of new information there were after parties to help everyone wind down and continue to network with new professional contacts.

  • Day 1 included a series of masterclasses, workshops, and meet and greets. Discussion topics included conversations about the future of insurance, how to build better relationships between insurers and the insurtech companies, and how to get the most of that cooperation.
  • Day 2 and Day 3 replicated the original DIA Amsterdam experience with fast-paced insurtech demos live on stage. The learning environment at DIA Amsterdam was unique because the presentations were limited to eight minutes each with the use of PowerPoint strictly forbidden.
  • In addition to the demos, an eclectic lineup of thought leaders gave talks about their experiences and thoughts on innovations within the industry. We left this conference with a full update on the state of insurtech, plenty of inspiration, and interesting ideas that we can start to implement in our systems and provide even stronger solutions.
